Aurora Triple Zip Crossbody Bag – Detailed Overview

The third pattern in the Aurora series, the Aurora Triple Zip Crossbody bag is finally here. This pattern has been classified as an advanced intermediate pattern because of the slightly more difficult curvy zippers and the curved base. If you are a beginner, I would advice starting with the Aurora Essentials Pouch and then trying the Aurora 3D pouch to get familiar with the 3D zipper technique before attempting this pattern. But if you are adventurous enough, just plunge right in and try this pattern out. There are lots of pictures and excellent instructions (as per my testers :D) that will guide you every step of the way.

The Aurora Triple Zip is a perfectly sized crossbody bag convenient for everyday use. It measures about 10″ long, 9.75″ tall and is about 3.6″ wide. The Aurora Triple Zip is a very versatile pattern which can be made using different types of fabrics, for example, quilting weight cotton, vinyl, cork, etc., or a combination of these. The Front of the Aurora Triple Zip bag has been designed in two styles: Basic Style: Suitable to showcase large prints or panels or embroidery and Color Blocked Style: Two toned front with a slip pocket.

Featuring interior multifunction pockets, an easy to reach front slip pocket and three exterior zippered pockets, the Aurora Triple Zip bag is designed to keep day to day necessities close at hand. A little contrast faux piping detail has been added to the front pocket. The best part is you don’t actually need piping to create this faux piping look. An easy technique to create this faux piping effect has been introduced in this pattern. The base on the Aurora is a pretty wide rectangular base with rounded edges.

The spacious interior of the Aurora Triple Zip bag features multifunction pockets to keep your essentials organized and close at hand. The lining is constructed using simple boxed corners (no grading of the seam allowance is required) and it fits perfectly inside the exterior. The spacious interior has a slip pocket with a pen slot and 4 credit card slots that also doubles up as a slim glasses pocket. If you use a contrast backing fabric, you can make the pen slot stand out. An 8″ tablet fits comfortably inside this bag.

The Aurora Triple Zip also features an adjustable crossbody strap making it a super versatile sling bag for shopping, brunch, dinners, café dates, etc., while making you look fashionable every day. Multiple options have been provided for the strap anchors based on the size of hardware and material you are using. I personally prefer using 1/2″ wide D-rings but you can also use 3/4″ ones if they are what you have on hand. The strap anchors can be made using cotton fabric or with fabrics such as vinyl or cork which can be sewn with raw edges. The fabric strap anchors are sewn into the top seam and the vinyl strap anchors are rivetted on. If you are sewing on a domestic machine then the vinyl strap anchor might be a better option for you.

My very talented testers have also added their own flair to the pattern and created stunning Auroras. Nurul has used the back bottom pattern piece to trim the front side and center panels and create a pretty two toned back bottom panel. Edmana has added some adorable applique flowers and bottom accents with contrast fabrics to create a gorgeous purple and mint Triple Zip bag. Chera has also added some contrast side accents on her pretty pink floral bag. Silvia has added long side loop connectors and used a contrast braided cord for the strap.

Not too big, not too small, the Aurora Triple Zip is an eye-catchy number that will house all your travel necessities in the roomy interior and zipper pockets provided, apart from transforming your outfits to a whole new level of WOW.

      1. Thanks. I can find a video showing what they look like but not how to sew them. I have bought a couple of patterns and would love some video tips on construction
