Recovering from a wrist injury, the only things I am able to sew nowadays are small projects like multipurpose pouches. A lot of my other larger projects have taken a back seat for now. But, I have been making a lot of basic pouches perfect for everyday essentials. Every time I make a pouch the designer in me wants to make modifications. So, the pouch design became more curvy and new mods like a front accent, color blocked front panel, a fringe style, etc., were added. A back zippered pocket was also added for additional storage and organizing options.

Then the experimenting with different styles of zippered pockets started: a basic cut out style zippered pocket, a 3D style zippered pocket, a curved 3D zippered pocket, etc. I also tried modifying the base: boxed corners and separate base piece. My pouch pattern has been modified so much over these months that I have enough material to write three different patterns!! That’s how the Aurora Series concept evolved!

The Aurora Pouch is the first of three patterns in the Aurora Series. It is the simplest pouch pattern with a top zippered opening, an easy back zippered pocket and boxed corners for a more roomy interior. The Aurora Pouch is a domestic machine friendly project perfect for confident beginners. This pouch is a trendy, compact, multi-purpose organizer pouch. The Aurora Essentials Pouch also makes a perfect gift for friends and family.

The Aurora Multipurpose Pouch is a very versatile pattern which can be made using different types of fabrics (quilting weight cotton/vinyl/cork/leather or a combination of these) and in many styles:

Style 1: Accent Style: With a front curvy accent and a back zippered pocket. The front accent can be made in vinyl or fabric and separate pattern pieces have been provided for each. The Back Panel has two pieces: Top Panel and the Bottom Panel with a decently sized zippered pocket in between. The zippered pocket is optional but it helps to to close the opening in the lining after turning the pouch and creates a cleaner look on the interior.

Style 2: Basic Style: Simple pouch with a top zipper, no front accent and no back zippered pocket. The basic pouch is the simplest of all the styles and just uses one pattern piece: the Main Panel for exterior and lining and one top zipper.

Style 3: Color Blocked Style: This style has a cool two-toned color blocked front. The back can be a simple plain back or can be constructed with a back zippered pocket.

Style 4: Fringe Style: Bohemian pouch with a fringed front accent with/without a back zippered pocket. The bottom edge of the fringe can be curvy (which is my favorite style) or can be straight.

The Aurora Multipurpose Pouch has a sizeable interior perfect for storing everyday essentials, for example, cosmetics, jewelry, toiletries, medicines, essential oils, stationery items, etc. The bottom of the Aurora Essentials Pouch is about 2″ wide and is constructed by boxing the corners.

A few of my testers have made their own simple yet very pretty modifications to the pattern: A piping along the front accent, a zipper used as a piping on the accent, flat contrast piping on accent, piping in between the side and center panels on the color blocked style, a top band on the basic pouch and even a pieced front accent!!

The Aurora Multipurpose Pouch is one versatile pattern with so many options!! Choose the style you love and make one now!! And then make all the other styles as well!! Happy Sewing!!!
