Here is my inspiration for my first 9 patch quilt. I found this picture on Pinterest and am absolutely in love with this quilt.

However, I am not able to find the source and neither the instructions. So as usual I turned to the internet for some much needed help.

Calculations:

For a king size quilt of dimensions 96″x108″ I will need about 72 (8×9) 12″ finished blocks. For a 12″ block I would need nine 4.5″ squares. I can get about 16 4.5″ squares from one fat quarter. I also need to add the sashing. Then I’ll need fewer blocks. I will probably use 2″ wide strips for the sashing. So I will have to cut lots of 2.5″ wide strips from white fabric.

There are a lot of links available that help you calculate sashing for a quilt. Here’s one Quilt Math. Now I’m off to cut my squares from my fat quarter bundles and will be back to update my progress.
